Why am I running the Boston Marathon?
The Challenge of a Lifetime
Since leaving professional surfing for engineering at the age of 24, I have searched for ways to challenge myself athletically. While running may not seem like much of a sport, it provides many similar enjoyments that professional surfing used to bring. This includes the challenge to beat my best performance and bring daily solitude from the doldrums of life. Running has become my new outlet to wash off the work day and stay healthy. I have challenged myself to qualify for one of the most prestigious marathons in the world; the Boston Marathon. After qualifying in December of 2017, I will now get to run through the streets of Boston on April 15, 2019!
Why am I Fundraising?
Do you like Dogs and Cats?
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to help dogs. I have chosen Golden Years Dog Rescue, a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a permanent loving home for at-risk and senior dogs that have either been neglected by their owners or who have been without a home for a long time. This rescue also saves kittens. I am asking for help in this mission to reach of goal of $2000. This will be used to help pay for food, medication, other medical services, etc. for countless dogs.
You are welcome to visit their website and Facebook pages below.

Two ways to win
General Rules
Golden Years Dog Sanctuary is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and is the non-profit that will be receiving all donations minus the winnings given out through the raffle and finish time guess. I am not benefiting monetarily from this in any way.
You can donate anyway you would like, including PayPal, Venmo, cash or check.
All donations will be made through me so I can keep track of who donates, how much, and how many raffle tickets they may have purchased. At that point I will be able to disperse the allocated amount to the non-profit as well as the winners.
Raffle
It is easy to donate!
Tickets are $10 each, or 4 for $30.
The raffle will be held two days after my race, on April 17th at noon.
Do not need to be present to win.
I will keep track of your tickets and notify the winners as well as post the winners on this website.
Finish Time Guess
Minimum buy-in is $10.
The more you donate, the more you win!
The closest time wins $50 of 7% or overall pot, whichever is greater
The second closest time wins $30 or 5% of overall pot, whichever is greater.
The third closest wins $20 or 3% of overall pot, whichever is greater.
In the event of a tie, for example someone guesses 34 seconds slower than my finish time and another person guesses 34 seconds faster than my finish time, the monies will be split between the two winners.
I will be posting weekly updates of my most relevant runs (runs that would best represent my actual pace during the marathon) including distance and equivalent marathon finish time.
You can update your guess(s) up to three times. Your most recent guess will be the guess used at time of race.
